Ehsaas is a magnetic tile and paver solution that aids the visually impaired to be self-reliant and navigate the city independently.

In a developing nation like India, where city planning for the visually impaired is not at the forefront for architects and designers, visually impaired have to rely on the kindness of strangers for assistance in travelling and navigating a city.

Shadowing and camera study was conducted by observing 13 visually impaired people navigating public spaces such as bus stops, roads, public transportation, etc.

This assisted in observing behavioural patterns formed by the visually impaired in their daily life.

To validate and understand in detail why these patterns have been cultivated, empathy interviews were conducted by interviewing 21 visually impaired individuals at train stations, industrial home for the blind and welfare societies.

‘Visually impaired have formed habits to overcome challenges they face while in transit. They cannot rely on these habits completely, causing them to depend on assistance from others thereby increasing their vulnerability.’

Habit loops were created to understand cue, routine and reward of habits that have been formed by visually impaired individuals to safeguard themselves

A true scale model of proposed idea was created and environment of a busy road was simulated to immerse participants for user testing
